Preparing for Pregnancy & Parenthood - A Personal Choice!

When is the best time to start getting your body ready for pregnancy?

I was asked this question a few days ago and the answer is not as straightforward as you might think. Depending on who you talk to, this answer can range from a couple of months to a year.

From my professional experience – at least three months are needed. Within these three months, the priority is to get as physically and mentally prepared as possible. Why does this matter?

  • A healthy body improves the chance of a healthy baby.
  • A healthy mind means the best possible start for the mother and her new family.

If starting a family has been something you’ve been thinking of and planning for, you’ve probably already started changing some of your lifestyle and habits. If you’re considering starting a family, it is wise to start thinking about your body and mind. Because beginning a family can be fraught with difficulties. Not every pregnancy is successful. Underlying health issues can raise concerns or cause complications. Plus the million and one other things that could go wrong.

Yet there’s no need to make yourself crazy with worry about what may or may not happen. Why? Because we have no control, that’s why. The only thing we can control is how we choose to prepare ourselves in a way that is right for us.

The path to parenthood is a personal journey. Yes, special moments are shared with loved ones, family, friends, doctors, nurses, and teachers, plus all the other incredible people who will play a pivotal role in our and our child’s life. But preparing for pregnancy, birth, and beyond should be:
